The career level weld process engineer is able to work autonomously with occasional guidance from supervision. Responsible for assisting in developing manufacturing processes, equipment/tooling alternatives, sequence and flow of operations for the effective utilization of personnel, material, machines and facilities necessary for the production of
vehicles
. Work is performed in an assembly/stamping facility where creativity and initiative is exercised as well as independent judgment.
Responsible for validation and execution of welding and joining processes for vehicle manufacturing. The candidate needs to work closely with production and maintenance personnel, equipment manufacturers, product
engineering
, supplier quality and launch teams.
Perform tryout, verification and debug of welding systems, tools and equipment
Provide technical support for installation of welding tools and equipment
Provide technical support for training of plant personnel
Work with product engineering to ensure manufacturability of joint design
Develop and document joining specifications and standards for equipment, processes and product quality
Participate in equipment supplier selection
Responsible for project management including timing, budget and deliverables
Responsible for continuous improvement projects to increase throughput and reduce cost
Organize and coordinate root cause analysis and problem solving activities related to quality

Efficient material flow
Design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of equipment, material, process and/or tools required in plants for the production of high quality parts
Providing technical direction to and oversight of outside vendor sources
Work may involve development and testing of advanced process technology.
Developing technical knowledge and ability in process engineering disciplines
Developing knowledge and ability to implement GMS principles
Must be willing to work any shift
Must be willing to work daily and weekend overtime as needed
Qualifications
Basic Required
Developing technical knowledge and ability in process engineering disciplines
Demonstrate strong analytical ability, communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members and customers to solve problems and resolve issues.
Demonstrated ability to manage smaller projects and assignments with medium level of autonomy and accountability for results (may work under the direction of a more seasoned process engineer)
Demonstrated ability in project management skills
Basic Preferred
Demonstrated understanding of plant floor work
Master's degree in engineering preferred
Education
Bachelor's degree with major in engineering or equivalent experience
